THE APOLLO SOYUZ TEST PROJECT (ASTP)
The US Apollo capsule launched from Florida and rendezvoused and docked with the USSR Soyuz capsule launched from the Soviet Union. The two spacecraft docked on July 17, 1975. Three astronauts (including the formerly grounded Mercury astronaut Deke Slayton) met and worked with two cosmonauts (commanded by Alexei Leonov, the First Man to EVA in 1965) for almost 2 complete days in orbit.
